About Edinburgh University Sailing Club
Founded in 1933 as the Edinburgh University Yacht Club, we are a well established club with lots to offer. The Sailing Club incorporates all areas of sailing including yachting, dinghy sailing and of course socials, all for varying levels of abilities. RYA courses are also offered from complete beginner level up to instructor courses.
We are one of the largest sports clubs within the university and our dinghy teams are the most successful teams in Scotland. They are also frequently seen at events down south of the border and doing impressively well. In 2010 Edinburgh became the first University north of Cambridge to win the British Universities Team Racing Championships. In the same year the team went on to win the 4 Nations Shield, the Irish Intervarsities, and the Scottish Chapionships. Our yachting teams are also making a great stand within Scotland and throughout the UK. In 2010 our Match Racing team finished runner-up at the British Chapionships. All of our club sailing takes place at Linlithgow Loch or right here in Edinburgh at The Royal Forth Yacht Club.
Our membership costs £45 per year and this includes use of our kit and our boats, expert tuition from qualified instructors and you can come sailing as little or as much as you want! No extra costs apart from RYA courses and some of the socials. In 2011 the club purchased 6 brand new firefly dinghies (great boats for training and the preferred boats for team racing).
