After a few weeks of struggling to train due to th After a few weeks of struggling to train due to the Norwegian ice curse in Fife, Edi Blue went to the hardest training event of them all, the warmer. With ex-captain Julia Barnes filling in on the team, we arrived in Southampton with high spirits.

After a dignified Friday evening of catching up on Traitors in Jules’ flat, Keith took one look at us as we went to launch for race 1 on Saturday morning and decided it was far too windy. I’m not sure if it was Rory immediately ripping his jib, but we really need to work on appearances. Eventually getting on the water the team saw some mixed results but some very fun racing. Rory was thrilled to be racing against some of his biggest team racing crushes, often getting a little distracted and finding himself spinning on go. I’ve been trying to tell him to not think about his opponents so personally. Our highlight of the day was definitely watching Alice Lucy go for a swim.

The team opted out of the curry on Saturday night after last years’ antics, but eventually got our dinosaur costumes on and headed to Jesters. Keeping Annie Hammet’s name well out of our mouths, edi blue enjoyed a much needed boogie, effectively preparing to face the competition the following morning. On Sunday morning, we had three goals in our race against Rutland: to make Ben spin, to knock Steve’s hat off, and to make Alice go swimming again. Sadly we only achieved one of those aims, and it was by far the least exciting of the three.

Although the results weren’t quite what we were looking for, we learnt a huge amount and had a great time on and off the water. Thanks to Southampton, Keith, and Charlotte for putting on another great Warmer. See you again soon!

At the end of semester one, Edi blue made their an At the end of semester one, Edi blue made their annual pilgrimage to Bristol. Being the jet setters that we are, the team decided to fly down to avoid the decade long drive. Arriving late on Friday the team was ready for some well earned rest, and completely refrained from searching for any open spots at such a late hour.

We arrived at Chew on Saturday morning, excited about the perfect team racing conditions, only to hear that all of Bath’s rudders were in Wales… interesting. The rejected Strath and Titans teams feeling smug already having trained for a few hours we waited for the fabled rudders to appear. Eventually getting on the water, we saw an unfortunately tough match up against some Bristol alumni, with Gifford and I making the fatal starboard soap dish error, and me also completely forgetting where the finish line was. Not our finest moment. After a great (half) day on the water, we headed to the social. After some pretty weak attempts at making costumes as our head of dress-up Millie Taylor decided it was her weekend off, we enjoyed some well earned pizzas. Gifford however decided his pizza was not well earned, leaving me to persuade him not to throw it all onto the floor for half an hour.

We arrived on Sunday morning, excited to see a full four flights all with rudders ready to go. After a tough day of racing due to a bit too much pizza the night before, the team ended up in 6th with lots of lessons learned. Thanks to Bristol for putting on a great event, see you next year!
