Happy World Wildlife Conservation Day! 🌍💙 Today w Happy World Wildlife Conservation Day! 🌍💙

Today we’re sharing why the “Check, Clean, Dry” initiative matters.

Every time we move kit between waterways, we risk spreading invasive species- but a few quick steps help keep our marine environments healthy.
Let’s sail smart and protect the wildlife we love!

The weekend started with an abysmal showing from E The weekend started with an abysmal showing from Edinburgh at the Friday social. With just three other brave Edinburgh sailors in my car we went to experience the single club of St Andrews. Our costumes were comprised only of crowns and axes. Disappointing, however I’m not sure how St Andrews expected us to dress up as ‘terrible tudors’. Maybe they forgot that not everyone has family heirloom royal regalia in their closets.

After meeting the night mayor of St Andrews (a 15 year old fifer warning us of a man with a machete), we boogied our hearts out with a bunch of furry Strath sailors. You would’ve thought that because we left the club last we’d get to bed pretty quickly, but silly me completely forgot Rangus’ daily 2-hour Duolingo session! I was over the moon that we were all learning Norwegian at 3am.

Saturday morning saw a slow start, with a mystery hole appearing in a St Andrews boat causing the fourth flight to become a 2v2 for the day. Luckily my team didn’t have to endure that, wouldn’t want any repeats of Grouse (I’m still having war flashbacks).

Edinburgh had an epic start to the weekend, with Edi Pink beating Strath Pink (uh oh), Green and White on a 90% and 70% win rate, and Edi blue going undefeated.

A well-earned Sunday morning AP put Edinburgh sailors in high spirits, except for Edinburgh Blue, who were on the water for an hour and a half watching the wind shift 40 degrees every five minutes. Gifford honourably went to ‘check out the wind’ on the other side of the island. While the rest of blue followed, I decided that sitting in the crew hole staring at my boots would be a better use of time. Wouldn’t want to miss the start!

After a troubling race against Glasgow, Edi Blue remained undefeated (thank god). Green also qualified for plat, with white in gold and pink topping silver. Huge shifts all round. Despite the tricky conditions on Sunday, the race committee still managed to complete over 150 races across the weekend (better than what I managed last year…). Huge thank you to James, the BUSA Rep, St Andrews for hosting, J Lo, and all the awesome umpires. See you all for leagues in January!

Bucs Fleets 2025 On Friday night, I ,along with 3 Bucs Fleets 2025

On Friday night, I ,along with 3 other deeply committed Edinburgh sailors, made the arduous journey down to Durham to compete in the BUCS Fleet Racing championship. The weekend got off to a rocky start when we discovered that we were missing an essential lighting board, which, it turned out had been taken by another unnamed Scottish university… Finally, we made it to Durham in time to catch up with old friends at the Friday night social. After some gossip, we went home to get some deserved shut-eye before day 1.

An early 6:45 wake-up caused a little tension in the camp. The 30-minute journey to Derwent from Durham was almost doubled due to some directional malfunctions from myself. These malfunctions included needing to unhitch the trailer to pull a U-turn, not my finest moment.

Electra and I started the event well with a 7th after a difficult start.
Both boats remained consistent throughout the first day of racing, with starting troubles plaguing the camp. Ending the day in 8th and 17th.

However, once our boots hit land, focus turned to the all-important Saturday night social. I stole the show with a pretty audacious attempt to recreate the revenge dress and Becky managed to murder Loughborough’s baby.
Sunday morning had us fired up and ready to push up the results sheet. After a good day of racing, it was all over, a brilliant event. Thanks to Durham university for hosting.

Final Results:
Rory and Electra 8th
Becky and Millie 17th
